We are all, inherently, part of the Earth we call home. Recently in my new temporary home in the Smoky Mountains, I am paying attention to nature for inspiration something that, in our plugged-in and always-on society sometimes its so hard for me and so over stimulating. Taking long walks in the wood, hearing nothing but the bird song and the whisper of wind, makes me realize how much one forgets how beautiful our Earth can be. Sitting here on my computer, surrounded by tall oaks and humming insects I almost feel displaced into a world that I have forgotten. There is an orchestra of cicadas all around me, they sing during the heat of the day, attracting mates and repelling the birds that find them tasty. I believe my writing may show the influence of my environment, although my first book POSM , portrays my love of the earth and depicts the challenges of keeping it safe for my fictional world and its people, this stay in the mountains may make my second book stronger and more influenced as this beautiful Earth speaks to me..
Take a walk, climb a mountain, swim in a pond, a river or an ocean. Enjoy your little piece of Earth.
"Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting— over and over announcing your place in the family of things."
