Season of Change

I am feeling the change of the season. After my birth month in September, which was definitely a new season beginning in my life, and although I live in a warmer state, I still feel that bit of coolness and new smells in the air.

This experience reminds me that seasons are a real thing. Trying to fight the seasons in our lives is as futile a battle, as trying to fight the seasons of nature. I spend a lot of the summer months longing for the weather of October . . . but I can’t DO anything to make the weather change. I have to live in whatever season it is. The season is going to happen whether or not I’m on board. The only choice I have in the matter is if I’m going to whine/complain/deny/wish it away or embrace where I am.

There are seasons in my writing life too. A season of being an unpublished writer. A season of preparing for a book release. A season of creative rest. A season of writing a specific book. Presently my season is full of writing almost every day and having strong goals of publishing two books before the winter season brings in the new year.

Often during my writing process, I come across seeds for new story ideas, and I have been carefully tucking them away until they are ready to sprout and take shape. These ideas give me something to ponder during the next new season. But for now, I respect and honor what I have, and what it took to create, shape, mature, and produce my work. I value all that I have received and all that I have been given during the arduous creative process. All of this also reminds me that writing runs in cycles, like most things in life. I can’t always be “on.” My body and creative well, need rest and refilling from time to time.

This has helped me alleviate some of the pressure I put on myself to produce work day in and day out. I still write almost daily, but I have realized that I am a healthier person when I schedule my time and allow for both projects and idea exploration, along with fun and rest.

Other News:

I have a book fair coming up and will be selling my first Book of the Pull of the Sister Moon Series. Thanks to Inspire Writers center for sharing their table with me! The dates for the Book Fair are November 19 & 20. I will be there from 12 pm -2 pm. At the Eau Gallie Civic Center, Melbourne, FL. The event is free and open to the public.

For some things, there are no wrong seasons. Which is what I dream of for me.
